There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
VIGILANTES CUM CHRISTO IN HORTU GETHSEMANI
Every year, on the evening of Holy Thursday, the Franciscan community comes together, along with the local Christian community and all the faithful to "watch and pray" for an hour with Jesus.
Fr. DIEGO DALLA GASSA
Hermitage of Gethsemane
We are at Gethsemane, a place dear to Jesus, that he visits often with His disciples, a place where they become His family, where he spends his ‘hour’.
It is here, in this place called Gethsemane, where we celebrate the 'holy hour’. But where does this celebration come from?
This celebration was born out of those moments, the last moments of Jesus' life that he lives here with his disciples.
I will explain: we now see many things built on earth, but somehow we must return to the earth in order to perceive what was there; in the same way, we need to go back to that ‘hour’, Jesus’ ‘hour’, to fully understand what we are celebrating here.
And now, as then, we should go back to listen to the Gospels. Exactly.
What happened here on that night, under the same moon, in this place called Gethsemane...
Gethsemane, the olive press, the abundance press.
